Rochester, N.Y. - A Greece man and a Gates man who were charged with making and distributing child pornography were sentenced Thursday. The two teen victims told a judge not to treat the pair equally when it comes to this crime.
After videotaping a sex act between her boyfriend and one of the girls (who was 16 at the time) Sharon Sexton sent him an e-mail saying "You like young ones...you like the thrill. I had fun taking part in it."
"Both defendants knew what was going on," U.S. Attorney Rick Resnick told 13 WHAM's Jane Flasch. "They did it deliberately and purposefully. There were no threats made by one defendant to the other defendant to cause this to occur. It was two adults acting knowingly and disgustingly."
Sexton admitted her crimes and apologized. "Thank you for the one who came forward to get me out of something i didn't want to be in," she said.
The girl who came forward is now 19. She said she was sexually abused for years.
The victim said if she had not come forward to a school counselor the abuse would have eventually moved onto others. "I will not address him as a human. I will address him as the animal he is today," she told the court. "Once this animal is free i guarantee he will not stop."
"My client is not an animal," said Defense Attorney Peter Pullano. "We don't offer any defense for what he did we just know that in addition to what he did there was much more to him than that."
Sexton told officers that she took the photos and sent them to Allen because he asked her to, and that Allen used the naked photos to "fantasize." The victims are girls who knew Sexton well.
In tears, one of them asked for leniency for Sexton, but not her boyfriend. "She isn't the person you think she is," the teenager told the judge. "I forgive her."
Sexton was sentenced to 15 years 10 months in federal prison, Allen to 20 years and 8 months.
Allen has pleaded guilty in state court for sexually abusing one of the victims. He has yet to be sentenced there.
