2017-10-21 - CALGARY, AB - The activist group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) took to social media last night to express concerns over Calgary Stampeders' mascot Quick Six.
Quick Six, a white stallion, was kept outdoors in the frigid temperatures of Canada in a stationary position for three hours.
The horse, known for sprinting a lap around the football field after a Calgary Stampeders touchdown did not move once last night.
"It was horrific," a PETA spokesperson stated.
The Roughriders even tried to help out the horse by starting a receiver, Duron Carter, at Defensive Back.
Even that couldn't help the horse, as Calgary Quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell threw an interception to Carter who returned it for a touchdown.
"The ball came right at me," Carter said. "I was shocked and didn't know where to go. I ran around and all I could think about was Quick Six standing there in the rain and snow. So I thought I should run to the endzone. Turns out I didn't help Quick Six with my Pick Six."
PETA has filed a complaint against the team, Mitchell, and Carter.
"As a receiver, Carter should have known better than to catch a ball entitled for someone else," stated PETA.
Mitchell and the Stampeders could not be reached for comment.
