Microsoft recently pushed out a new software update adding new capabilities to the webcam on the Surface product line. This update will allow the camera to get clear images through most porous materials including plastic and paper.
This update is part of the new firmware for all Surface models that was rolled out June 1st and is required for the machines to continue to function.
