In a press release to the United States Senate issued by the FDA’s secretary of public affairs, an official cease of operations by those in the e-cigarette industry will be implemented effective immediately October 12th, 2018.
“It is with great concern that we must implement this immediate ban of sales and production of products in the industry. It appears that this industry prides itself on targeting children; while having its own childlike attitude towards acting in an adult manner. There has been more than ample opportunity for those in the industry to show a responsible nature, however this will be done immediately and in a swift manner that can be executed in a manner that we will not have any violators of the ban. The civil penalty for possession or operation by any shop owner, online website, or manufacturer after the ban date will be deemed a felony punishable by fines up to 1,000,000 dollars and/or 10 years in prison.” Stated Gottlieb.
“While we know there is a cessation aspect of this product; we will quickly make available these products through the regulatory process of the medical field ensuring those that need their e-cigarettes and tobacco or menthol liquids will have immediate access to them.” Gottlieb also stated.
An official public press release will be announced by the agency on October 10, 2018.
