The significance and meaning of the American Dream often changes, sometimes as frequent as being different each decade. Many factors go into influencing how other Americans aspire to live their lives - from wars to celebrities to superficial fads, there is always something that is giving significance to the American dream. During the 1700s, our American dream was formed by our hatred of the British and colonization, and the American dream became having the freedom to govern sovereign, and be free from any governmental puppeteers. The American dream then carried on through the 1800s and 1900s as a fight for individual, race and gender rights and liberties. Parallel to this adaption of the American dream, comes the more commonly known dream - which refers to buying a house, starting a family, and living happily. In the more recent era, the American dream has seemed to evolve to more spiritual, wellness related goal, such as creating a healthy life for yourself, while having positive influences around you, and more appreciating nature and the world around you.
