The WINTER STORM WARNING is now in effect for numerous counties from Sault Ste. Marie to Ludington beginning MIDNIGHT Tuesday through 1AM EST THURSDAY night.  In addition, there is a LAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNING for Luce County in the Upper Peninsula.

LEELANAU, ANTRIM, OTSEGO, BENZIE, GRAND TRAVERSE, KALKASKA, MANISTEE, WEXFORD, EMMET, CHEBOYGAN, CHARLEVOIX, MASON, LAKE, OCEANA, NEWAYGO, MUSKEGON, and CHIPPEWA Counties are in the Winter Storm Warning area.  Bands of heavy snow are expected...but most people will see 12 or 18 inches of snow.  Lake effect bands in a few neighborhoods will produce another 6 to 8 inches.  This is a warning for travelers.  Roads will be snow covered and icy.

Along Lake Superior in Luce County...the bands of heavy lake effect snow will continue into Wednesday.

Snow totals will vary greatly from over 2 feet of new snow to a trace.  That's the nature of lake effect snow.  However, it will be cold everywhere.  Highs leading into Wednesday will not be able to get any higher than 15 to 18 degrees.  Plus, the wind is going to gust to 20 mph all across northern Michigan...and anywhere near the Great Lakes you'll feel gusts over 35 mph.  So, wind chill temperatures today will be below zero at times.
