Early yesterday morning Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney announced that the plan to replace the aging Richmond Coliseum is moving ahead.
The plans for a new 21,000 seat arena on the footprint of the existing building are moving forward quickly. The surrounding area is getting a facelift as well with a mixed use living and working area much like West Broad Village being built.
Demolition of the existing Coliseum will begin as early as mid May 2018. The city says one tenant of the building will be misplaced during the process.
Construction is will be ongoing until mid 2020.
