The legal drinking age will become 30 years old for residents in the state of Connecticut. This decision is made after an outrageous number of reports of intoxicated drivers between the ages of 21 and 30. Since 2014, there have been approximately 450 deaths from intoxicated drivers alone. Alcohol is the number one cause of death in motor vehicle accidents and the lawmakers of the state are trying to put an end to that.
What does this mean for residents that are 21?
It's simple, you will no longer be able to purchase any type of alcoholic beverage until you are officially 30 years of age or older.
Lawmakers say if this change reduces the number of motor vehicle accidents in the next five to ten years, the subject will be brought back up to possibly lower the age. If not, they say the age could be risen to as high at 40 years old!
Connecticut is the first state to put this law into effect and lawmakers hope that other states will follow.
The new law may go into effect as early as January 2018.
