In a stunning development today a spokesman for Diahatsu Inc. has announced the acquisition of Ford Motor Company. Specific details were not offered but the spokesman says that a more in depth press conference will be held Friday.
Industry experts are speculating that Diahatsu's parent company Toyota was heavily involved in the transaction. An unnamed source with United Auto Workes union was quoted to say, "The loss of Ford Motor Company is a blow to the American worker. I have no doubt that the government of Japan as well as Toyota was involved. We will expect that all union contracts will be honored and are monitoring the situation closely."
The Diahatsu spokesman said that while there are currently no plans regarding branding that will be expected to change. To solidify Diahatsu's position in the American auto market it is expected that by 2022 the Ford brand name will be retired and replaced by Diahatsu.
Ford Motor Company was founded in 1903 and has total assets of over 237 billion dollars. Diahatsu was founded in 1907 and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Toyota Motors. Toyota has total assets of over 420 billion dollars.
