Putin-linked companies quietly buying property in Trump buildings

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Nearly two dozen Russian companies linked to President Vladimir Putin have spent millions of dollars in the past several months to buy office space, condos and suites in dozens of buildings owned by the Trump Organization LLC.
The purchases include space and condos in Trump-owned properties New Jersey, New York, Nevada, Illinois, and some foreign properties in Turkey and Canada.
According to documents filed in the purchases, companies that bought properties included engineering giant Revnovak GMBC, oil exploration firm Zarnetz Corp. and television production firm CRGV Inc. Many of the purchases were made by Russian tech giant Nedrahnivek Group CCP, which is suspected as an accomplice in cyberattacks on the U.S. presidential election.
Together, 22 companies purchased more than $378.39 million worth of real estate holdings through the Trump Organization’s properties between October 2016 and May 2017, according to public documents.
Each of the companies have direct links to Putin. Sources close to the White House said Trump and Putin discussed the purchases, and future purchases by other companies, during their meeting at the G20 Summit. White House officials refused to confirm or deny the reports.
“These purchases appear to be nothing more than putting money into the pockets Trump’s company,” said Joseph Peterberg III, a legal and constitutional scholar at White Rock University in Kirckton, New York.
Trump supporters defended the purchases as nothing more than good business.
“This is why people hate the lame-stream media,” said Deputy Press Secretary Cal Metsort. “These purchases have nothing to do with the president’s work or his family. It’s just another example of the witch hunt by the media. No one believes you anymore, by the way.”
